The Outsiders Cafe is a casual spot tucked inside the Radia Commercial area of Bukit Jelutong, serving primarily Malay cuisine with a focus on dishes from the East Coast, especially Kelantan. Though called a cafe, it functions more like a simple eatery where locals come primarily for hearty, reasonably priced lunches rather than lingering over coffee or snacks.

The main draw here is the Nasi Kerabu Ayam and various nasi kelantan-style dishes — these are what most visitors come for. The aroma and flavors lean authentically towards Kelantanese cooking, with fragrant rice and sambal that locals familiar with the cuisine will appreciate. From the steady lunch crowd, it’s clear this place is popular among people working nearby and residents in Bukit Jelutong looking for affordable, no-frills Malay meals.

Expect a straightforward atmosphere: clean and practical seating with a busy, slightly bustling vibe during peak lunch hours. Seating arrangements can be shared with strangers during busy times, reflecting a down-to-earth, communal vibe rather than a formal dining setting. Service moves at a relaxed pace, speeding up or slowing down with how busy the place gets — so patience during rush hour is part of the experience.

For those who work in or visit Shah Alam, dropping by around mid-morning or after the peak lunch crowd can be more comfortable. While known for Malay fare, particularly nasi kelantan dishes, the western options are present but tend to take a backseat to the traditional favorites.

  • Best for: Affordable and authentic Kelantanese Malay dishes, especially for lunch.
  • Who will enjoy it: Office workers, local residents, and anyone craving genuine East Coast Malaysian flavors without the fuss.
  • Best time to visit: Outside typical lunch hours to avoid the busiest periods and to enjoy quieter seating.
  • Atmosphere: Practical, clean, and busy with a communal seating setup that reflects its loyal local clientele.

All in all, The Outsiders Cafe offers an unpretentious spot where the food’s authenticity keeps customers coming back, making it a familiar, functional lunch stop rather than a casual coffee hangout or leisure cafe space.

Best place to eat for NASI KELANTAN CUISINES. People at Bukit Jelutong call it Nasi Kelantan Restaurant and the cuisine really boasts nasi kelantan. Yet ,it is delicious and worth the price. A lot of people during lunch hour. This restaurant is only famous for the Nasi Kelantan. Hence, for the western food not so delicious but still can eat.

Regular lunch place for us working here the food never disappoints. For service timeline use your common sense, if the shop is full then expect slight delay.

Disappointed. Went there for lunch today, out of 6 of us, only 2 meals came in on reasonable time. Another one got her food after 30 mins. No food for others until almost an hour. Not like they need to cook the meal from scratch, as the food were already precooked. Revisit - service has improved tremendously. So I am changing my review based on my latest visit. Suggest to have more noodles menu.
